Our Philosophy

Choosing the right tutor or test prep company is important for every students' success! We believe content knowledge is just as important as the personal connection tutors make with the student. With so many options available please consider these factors before you commit to a tutor or a group class.

We work to build positive relationships with students, their teachers, and school counselors. If a tutor blames the school in any way for a students' struggles in a class or on a standardized test, this should serve as a HUGE RED FLAG! This self-preservation tactic is a detriment to the student-school relationship we hope to enhance.

  • Subject-matter expertise (State certified) is very important. We hire tutors who have proven their knowledge of a subject through the rigorous coursework and testing required to earn a Michigan Teaching Certificate.

  • Current or retired educator understand better than anyone else how to differentiate instruction, using a variety of methods to help students learn.

  • Personality match can be just as important as content knowledge. Students learn when they feel cared for and trust their teachers and tutors.

  • Academic success is more important than test scores. For that reason, we rarely assign additional work. during the school year.

  • Availability is also important. Our tutors work hard to accommodate students' busy lives. Often, meeting in the evenings and weekends affords each student the time they need for school work, extra-curricular activities, and most importantly, family time.

  • We don't make guarantees of increasing scores. We can guarantee students are provided top-notch tutors and test strategies. No one can guarantee a score.

  • Length of class- Consider the students' ability to focus. We believe a course that lasts more than 3 hours at a time is beyond their capacity for active and engaged learning. Shorter classes, meeting more often allows the student time to process the new information.

  • Academic success is more important than test scores. For that reason, we limit the amount of "homework" students are expected to complete for our courses.

  • Consider class size. Students should register for classes which have low student:teacher ratios so they can receive a more attention from the tutor. Most of our classes have less than 15 students, and we will run classes with as few as three students.

  • Beware the one-size-fits-all tutor. Our courses are taught by 2 or 3 tutors who are expert in specific subject areas in each test. Our English expert does not pretend to be a Math expert. Students should expect to be taught in these courses just like they hired a private subject-area tutor.
